"I've got to begin again, though I don't know how start. Yes, I've got to begin again and it's hard" ~Billy Joel

Again, I will start with a cheesy line from a song to introduce this blog about quotations from movies and television but like I said before I think it just proves my point even more about the importance of quotes.

I have them plastered around my room, on my facebook and myspace and even taped to my desktop monitor. If there were room on my laptop, I'd have them there too.

The quote above doesn't have a story attached to it; it is simply a lyric from a song that you can apply however you like. How it applied to my life a year ago is not how it applied to Billy Joel's life or how it might apply to your life but it explains to a tee the point of the quotes I am about to talk about. Life is hard and starting over is hard but it is how we live our lives, constantly in flux.

Movies and television shows provide us with story lines through which we can filter our own life stories. Quotes from these shows seem so specific to the time and place of the characters, but they aren't. When taken out of context they still stand true; they hold the same meanings. The quotes mentioned below talk of growing up and learning to be yourself even when other people don't want you to. They take another person's troubles and makes them connect to yours.

At this time in life, we're growing up and learning about ourselves. There is so much going on and so many things to discover but perhaps the most important thing we can ever remember is this: "Growing up sucks." This is just the beginning of a quote from the show Dawson's Creek.

So growing up sucks but Joey Potter, the typical girl-next-door gives it just a little more credit then that. "And not all kisses are magic, and most boys, do NOT live up to your expectations. But...there are those times when everything, I mean...love, romance, relationships...it all falls together perfectly and...It's incredible. And it's those moments, no matter how depressingly few and far between... that make growing up worth it."
