St. John's men's soccer lost to No. 5 Connecticut on the road Friday night at the Joseph J. Morrone Stadium in Connecticut, 3-0. The Red Storm fell to 2-1-0 in Big East play and 4-4-1 overall.

"We played against a very talented and tough Connecticut team," head coach Dave Masur said. "I think we had a series of chances that we didn't capitalize on."

The team suffered its first loss in three games after winning two consecutive contests at home against No. 5 West Virginia and Pittsburgh. The Red Storm's loss advanced UConn to an 8-1-0 season record and a 3-1-0 in the conference.

St. John's only two shot attempts recorded came from midfielders junior Rory Quinn in the first period at the 27:55 mark and freshman Tafadzwa Chiduku at the 88:19 mark of the second period.

"I don't think we generated enough offense," said Masur. "We didn't close down on them when we needed to."

Senior forward Ryan Cordeiro of UConn notched the lone goal in the first period at the 32:41 mark, off an assist from sophomore midfielder Mike Pezza and junior defenseman Oscar Castillo, with a flying header into the bottom right corner of the net. The goal gave St. John's a deficit of only 1-0.

UConn's junior midfielder Akeem Priestley, recorded the first goal of the second period and his third for the season at the 51:44 mark, leaving the Red Storm at a 2-0 deficit.

Despite a disappointing loss to the Huskies, Masur stayed positive with the team after the game. He wanted his players to bring up their level of play, learn from their mistakes on the field, and use what was learned to apply it to the next game on the schedule.

"I told them we needed to step up and learn from the experience," Masur said.
