St. John's was unable to overcome Syracuse in its first Big East game of the 2008 season, falling at the Carrier Dome Wednesday 76-70.

Although the Johnnies fell behind by as many as 13 points in the first half, the team was resilient and fought back throughout the period. St. John's was down by seven at halftime, however the score was not indicative of the type of half it was.

The Red Storm stayed with the Orange in the second half and got to within two points. However bad turnovers wound up costing St. John's, as Syracuse was able to capitalize off of St. John's mistakes.

Justin Burrell was the strongest player on the court for St. John's, posting a double-double, but all eyes were on Syracuse's Arinze Onuaku, who was dominant in the paint and gave St. John's a headache all night long.

The Red Storm will be back in action Saturday when it takes on Cincinnati in its first Big East home game of the season. Cincinnati posted a one-point upset of Louisville in its first conference game.
