Returning to the St. John's community after two years, Jamaican play writer and actor, Trevor Rhone graced the Little Theatre stage with his autobiographical performance Bella's Gate Boy on Feb. 13.

In his current work, Bella's Gate Boy, Rhone depicts his life growing up as a young boy in Kingston, Jamaica. Through humor and warmth, he relives his childhood, describing how he spent his time "moving, eating, and playing" and how he had come to realize his passion of "singing, dancing, and reciting."

Born in 1940, Rhone has dedicated much of his life to writing a number of great screen plays including Smile Orange (1971), School's Out (1974), and Two Can Play (1982).

Prior to the performance, members of the audience were able to attend a reception hosted by the sponsors of the event, the President's Multicultural Advisory Committee, the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and the Division of Student Affairs.

Featuring buffet-style catering and Caribbean music, the faculty and students in attendance were able to mingle with each other in a close-knit environment, while awaiting Rhone's performance.

Preceding the performance, Trevor Rhone was honored by members of the Caribbean students Association with their performance of an excerpt from Rhone's stage work Smile Orange.

Rhone was also awarded with a gift on behalf of Lawrence King, president of Student Government, and Ludny Pierre, executive vice president of Haraya, Pan-African Students Coalition."
