Vengeance served by St. John’s women

Revenge.

That is what the St. John’s women’s basketball team enacted on Georgetown on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Storm, behind 15 points from Greeba Barlow and Angela Clark’s eighth double-double of the season, crushed the Hoyas, 74-54, at McDonough Arena in Washington, D.C.

The win avenges two losses last season to the Big East rival. Georgetown won at home, 83-75, last Jan. 16 and then came into Carnesecca Arena on Feb. 22 and left with a 64-57 victory.

Barlow and the Red Storm never gave the Hoyas a chance to muster another win in the two teams’ only meeting of the season. The senior guard, starting in place of the transferring Andrea Peterson, almost outscored Georgetown in the first half herself.

Barlow shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the field, scored all of her points before halftime and helped St. John’s to a 44-18 lead at the break. St. John’s shot 53 percent from the field in the first half while limiting the Hoyas to an abysmal 13 percent.

Clark scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds. Junior forward Danielle Chambers added 12 points and nine rebounds while guard Kia Wright had a strong all-around game with 10 points, five rebounds, eight assists and three steals.

Forward Kieraah Marlow led the Hoyas with 15 points and eight rebounds.

The win is St. John‘s second straight in Big East play after upsetting No. 12 Notre Dame, 66-63, at home on Jan. 4.

The Red Storm’s next conference contest is Jan. 11 against Pittsburgh.
