Men’s basketball schedule released

The St. John’s men’s basketball team will begin 2005-06 play on Saturday, Nov. 19, when the Red Storm takes on the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore at Carnesecca Arena.

Norm Roberts returns as head coach for a second season, and will lead star Daryll Hill, among others, against their Big East rivals. St. John’s will play 18 home games this season, including eight at Carnesecca Arena on campus and 10 at Madison Square Garden.

“Our schedule allows us to play our traditional local rivals, as well as some national powers, before we get into the conference schedule,” Roberts said. “We travel to Duke and Virginia Tech, play a full slate at the Garden and play in the Holiday Festival. This will give St. John’s fans a great opportunity to follow our team, which features a lot of new faces this year.”

The Red Storm opens with six games at Carnesecca Arena, with several games against local rivals, including Hofstra (Nov. 29).

After their homestand, St. John’s will travel to Virginia Tech (Dec. 10), before returning to MSG to face Marist (Dec. 17). St. John’s will play Duke before a national television audience on ESPN 2, at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Dec. 21.

The team will also defend their 2004 title against Columbia at the Panasonic Holiday Festival at MSG Dec. 27. Other notable games include Connecticut (Jan. 25), Syracuse (Feb. 12), and Villanova (March 1). The team will end the regular season against Rutgers on Senior Day at Carnesecca Arena March 5.

Game times and broadcast information have not yet been announced.
