Letters to the Editor
Re: Sept. 11 2006 issue
On behalf of the Division of Student Affairs, I wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate the editors and staff of the TORCH on a well-executed and poignant issue commemorating the fifth anniversary of September 11th. Your coverage effectively highlighted how many sectors of the St. John’s University community were impacted by the dreadful events of September 11, 2001 in a very personal way. You handled their stories with a degree of professionalism and sensitivity that is not always seen in the national media.
Thank you for serving our community so well. I wish you further success in your endeavors throughout the school year.
From Fr. James J. Maher, C.M.

To all contributors to The Torch:
I just wanted to take this opportunity to acknowledge and commend all of you for the obvious efforts you are already making this year.
This year, after reading two issues of The Torch, I am much more proud to call it my University’s newspaper. The new layout, the new logo and even then writing itself are at a level that far surpasses what we used to see on Wednesdays. This is not to say that the newspaper was bad before, but there is always room for improvement and you are definitely occupying much of the room that was left for you. Kudos to all of you and please, PLEASE, keep up the good work. I look forward to picking up The Torch every week.
