Cross country takes first place at home

Led by senior Jodey Johnson, the Red Storm cross country team claimed a first place team victory in the 4K race Sunday afternoon at the St. John’s Fall Festival at Cunningham Park.

Johnson finished first overall in the race with a time of 15:23.46 and was one of three Storm athletes to finish in the top five.

Rakibat Abiola finished with a 15:30.61, earning the sophomore a third-place finish. Teammate Jane Vongvorachoti contributed a 15:41.74, good enough for a fifth-place finish overall for the senior.

Rounding out the Red Storm showing in the top 22 at the race were junior Nerissa Pelle, who placed 11th with a 16.57.63, and senior Thalene King who finished with 17:18.61 for a 13th place finish.

The Red Storm’s next race will be a big one. On Oct. 27 at Franklin Park in Boston, the Johnnies play for the Big East Championship.
