The St. John’s men’s and women’s fencing teams dominated at home Feb. 11, going undefeated in the annual St. John’s invitational against Rutgers and Sacred Heart. The men’s foil team, comprised of Sam Wunderlich, Henry Kennard and Alexis Landerville, was on their game, as they finished the day a perfect 18-0 to lead the Red Storm to victory.
In the first round of the event, the men’s and women’s teams cruised to victory by scores of 21-6 and 24-3, respectively. Both the men’s and women’s foil teams were perfect in their outing, each posting marks of 9-0 to down Rutgers.
St. John’s kept their strong performance alive in the second round, as the men won 23-4 and the women won 22-5. The men’s foil team continued to dominate, finishing the second round with a score of 9-0. The women’s epee team, represented by Joanna Guy, Reka Szele and Tanya Novakovska, was also perfect in the second round with a score of 9-0.
St. John’s will be back in action March 11 at Tufts University for the Northeast Regional championships.
