Manhattan shuttle may return for St. John’s students

St. John’s students may see a return of the Manhattan shuttle service that was cancelled at the start of the semester.

Due to ongoing backlash from students, Student Government Incorporated (SGI) is working closely with Student Affairs to resurrect the once popular service. This past week, SGI created a survey to track travel, time and rank of satisfaction from students who used the service prior to its elimination.

The cancellation of the shuttle service originated with the absence of resident students located at the current Manhattan campus on Astor Place. Since the news of the removal, there has been an adverse reaction from commuting students who now travel more than an hour between the Queens and Manhattan campus.

Caroline Zottl, a student who frequently travels to the Manhattan campus and the Vice President of SGI, believes that there was no student opinion in this decision. “It was a decision that came mainly from administration, there was no student input at all,” she said.

Now, Zottl is teaming up with SGI, Student Affairs and the general student body to bring back the service, and has held meetings where even President Gempesaw was in attendance.

According to Zottl, it will be up to Executive Vice President Martha Hirst to make the decision. Hirst made the previous conclusion to terminate the Manhattan service.

Students interested in voicing their opinions about the cancellation are encouraged to answer the survey on the SGI Facebook page.
