What About The St. John’s Women’s Basketball Team

There is a team on campus that gives a solid effort every single time it plays. A team that is underpublicized by the school. A team that calls Alumni Hall home. That team: The SJU women’s basketball team.

Head Coach Darcel Estep is slowly molding this team into a Big East and national power. St. John’s has depth at every position, and have guards that swarm like locusts. The Lady Red Storm may not make the NCAA tournament this season, but it is not for lack of trying.

Its upcoming schedule is brutal. St. John’s plays UConn, Notre Dame, Rutgers and Boston College twice each. If the Storm qualify for the WNIT, it would be a successful year for this program on the rise.

But St. John’s needs fan support. Its crowds are depressingly low, but are loud and vocal. I urge students, fans, anybody, come and watch this team. You’ll like them.

SLAPSHOTS FROM THE POINT:
The Knicks are reportedly looking to trade Glen Rice to Chicago for Ron ” Why didn’t the Knicks draft me in 99 ” Artest. It just goes to show you why the Knicks give me agita.

Hofstra is a NCAA tournament team.

I’m excited about the ECAC (DEC 26, 27). Watch it. It is a great tourney.
