Springing into Fall with style

With the semester’s start and the weather’s declining temperatures one can be sure that autumn is upon us. Despite the fact that one can still see the essence of summer through vibrant clothing such as colorful flip-flops, lively tops, and bright jewelry, the inception of fall is slowly but surely becoming noticeable on the streets of New York City.

However, before you settle on bundling yourself up in layers of purely unnecessary
clothing, such as in previous years, you may want to take into consideration the fashion line that awaits.

This season may come as a surprise to some, due to the fact that there is no exquisitely unique evolution taking place in the world of high fashion, but rather, a minuscule change that is derived from the different time periods, such as the sixties and seventies.

The style, though to some may seem tedious and out-of-date, is unusually crafted to fit the present day through elegance, sophistication, and expressiveness.

Out go the shapeless dresses and tops that have hidden the bodies of thousands of women across the country and in come hard-angled clothes that modestly accentuate the womanly form. Although one may still encounter variations on the baby doll dresses and bubbly tops of the Summer months, one will notice a slight difference: a more chic and close-fitting look.

This autumn and early winter, one should welcome knit sweater dresses which can be cinced at the waist with a thin belt, tunics with bold prints, metallic tops, and embellished blouses. Cropped shorts, the unending trend of leggings and tights, and elongated sweaters will also be seen.

When it comes to layers that glaze your look, pea-coats, trench coats, plaid coats, coats in bold colors such as luscious red and emerald green, and ones in extreme shapes, are all very trendy this year.

Sweaters are another must-have item to finish off your look, preferably paired with tailored pants and a button-up shirt, and topped off with pearls.

In addition, the fabrics used this season vary from sweater knits to sleek silks, in colors such as gray, white, black, brown, plum, velvet, cobalt blue, navy, green, and bold red. In simple terms, the “mod” look is the style of Fall 2007. It is a mix between Edie Sedgwick, Audrey Hepburn, Twiggie, and the modern woman of today.

However, a fashionable look would not be quintessentially fashionable without suitable accessories and shoes. This year, one can look forward to big wraparound scarves, colorful jewelry, patent satchels in daring colors, oversized clutches, glossy bags, bags with animal and bold prints, and long cascading necklaces.

As far as shoes go, boots are in the spotlight this season. Ankle boots are making the prime statement this fall/winter; nonetheless other designs are still fit for this time of year. Besides boots, one will find flats, pumps, or modern mary-janes across the shelves, all of which complement this season’s must-haves.

Late 2007 and early 2008 are not only intended for women to shine, but for the men as well. Men should go for a sleek look, one that will showcase their assets, combined with pea-coats, leather jackets, sweaters, and blazers.

Instead of the usual button-down shirts, one can spice things up a bit by bringing in this season’s cardigans or merely mixing colors such as gray, white, and black.

Pleated pants are the replacement of jeans, however, that does not mean you should stop wearing jeans on occasion. The shoes should match the coordinated sleek outfit such as loafers in shades of gray and black, shiny ones, or the ever popular oxfords and sport brand shoes.

The change in accessories for men is not particularly vast or substantial, but has basically remained the same from the plain ties to the slick messenger bags.

If you desire to be the talk of the semester, then fall into the fashion craze of this year! With top-notch stores such as Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdale’s, to more affordable ones such as Forever 21, H&M, and Urban Outfitters, holding the latest creations, you will never be pushed into the cloudy background of yesteryear.
Let this semester be a fashion savvy one for you; set off and explore the world of unstoppable styles in the city of authentic fashion.
