SJU losing streak extends to four

The women’s soccer team suffered its fourth straight loss Friday on the road to Rutgers 1-0.

The match was played very evenly as both teams finished the game with eight shots apiece, with the Scarlet Knights slightly edging the Red Storm on corner kicks 6-4.

However, the difference in the game came in the 22nd minute of play when Scarlet Knights junior forward Kristen Edmonds notched her first goal of the season.

Edmonds received a feed from senior forward Domenique Esposito and made a move to get past a Red Storm defender to bury a shot in the bottom-right corner of the goal.

The Red Storm tried to rally the rest of the game and tested Rutgers goalie Erin Guthrie. The senior finished with two saves for the game as she stopped freshman Raelynne Lee and sophomore Sarah McGrath’s shots on goal.

Lee and sophomore Kelly McConnell finished the game with a team-high two shots apiece.
Red Storm goalie Jamie Beran finished the game with three saves.

With this loss, St. John’s record fell to 3-5-0 in the Big East while the Scarlet Knights improved its record to 2-4-2 in the conference.

The Red Storm faced Seton Hall Sunday to wrap up its four game road trip.
