Storm’s Davis Qualifies for NCAA Championships

The St. John’s Women’s track and field team traveled to BostonUniversity this past weekend to compete in the annual TerrierClassic, where Shernette Davis highlighted the event qualifying forthe NCAA Championships.

Davis provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships,clocking 54.19 in the 400-meter dash.

Davis also temporarily qualified for the 60-m and 200-m dashes,and now has her eyes set on the Championship, which will takesplace from Mar. 12-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.

The Red Storm also finished with strong showings in otherevents, placing second in the 4×400-m relay team, which includedDavis and teammates Thamara Cherisme, Vanessa Sessa and TarashonBroomes.

St. John’s also performed well in field events. Leading the waywas junior Blessing Egwu, who placed fifth in the weight throw at16.14m and sixth in the shotput at 12.78m. Teammates Judy Owens andBrandy Bradford also did well in the weight throw and shot putevents for St. John’s.

Competition for SJU continues this week as the Storm willparticipate at the Milrose Games at Madison Square Garden thisupcoming Friday.

This event will only be a warm up to the coming weeks in whichthe Red Storm will compete in the Big East, IC4A and ECACchampionships.
