Barnes Arico inks four HS standouts

St. John’s women’s basketball coach Kim Barnes Arico announced the signing of Victoria Hodges, Joy McCorvey, Arecia Mitchell and Allie Patterson to national letters of intent Monday to play for the Red Storm beginning in 2006.

“We are bringing in four quality players from quality programs,” said Barnes Arico, now in her fourth season with St. John’s.

Hodges averaged a double-double with 12.7 points and 10.5 rebounds per game last season for Farmington (Conn.) High School. Joy McCorvey (Brewton, Ala.) led T.R. Miller High School by averaging 18 points and 12 rebounds per game as a junior.

Arecia Mitchell (Tyler, Texas) averaged 14.8 points and 9.8 rebounds for John Tyler High School. Allie Patterson (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) led her high school squad with 10 double-doubles, including a single-game school record 36 points, last year as a junior.
