Letter to the Editor 10/13
To the editor:
Over the past few weeks, you’ve probably heard about the “It Gets Better” project. After the tragic suicide of Rutgers’ student Tyler Clementi, celebrities, students and people of all ages and backgrounds have taken part in this campaign, creating videos of support for GLBT youth who have been bullied or harassed because of their sexuality. It’s great to see such a diverse array of people uniting for such an important cause. The “It Gets Better” project also made its way to the St. John’s campus last week. I am so proud of the students here who are banding together to show their support for GLBT youth in light of this terrible situation. I can only hope that events like this continue to take place on campus in the future because it is healthy for the members of this university to engage in dialogue and promote tolerance.
