Royal Treatment For Hawaii Native

Nearly a month after completing its 25 win season, the St. John’s volleyball team continues to rack up individual honors.

After winning Big East Rookie of the Year, freshman Robyn Kurasaki was named the 2000 Northeast Region Freshman of the Year as announced recently by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

The honor comes only three weeks after being named conference rookie of the year. Kurasaki was named Big East Rookie of the Week four times. She tallied 1,370 assists on the season and was ranked fifth in the Big East with 11.61 assists per game. She also broke the school record for assists in a match with 83 in a five game win over Syracuse on Oct. 29th.

Kurasaki is the first SJU player ever to be named Northeast Region Freshman of the Year.

The individual honors didn’t end with Kurasaki. Senior Olga Roudovski made history as she became the Red Storm volleyball player to earn a spot on the Northeast All-Region first team.

She capped her stellar career with this award and also becoming the first Red Storm volleyball player to make the Big East First Team.

Roudovski is SJU’s all-time kills leader with 1,541. In her final match of her career she broke the conference record for single season kills with 544.
