Swimming in the right direction

On Saturday, Dec. 9, the St. John’s swimming and diving teams competed in a dual meet against St. Francis of New York. In that meet the men remained undefeated (5-0) in a 108-70 victory. The women (3-3) won its second consecutive meet 102-84.

The men won six of eight individual events. The winners were Daniel Wells in 200meter freestyle (1:48.40), Karol Ciechanowski in the 200 meter individual medley (1:56.22), Jaak Savvi in the 100 meter fly (51.92), Daniel Miyoshi in the 100 meter backstroke (56.62), Michal Szapiel in the 500 meter freestyle (4:58.82) and Maciej Lewandowski in the 100 Breast Stroke (1:00.48).

The women’s team had four individual winners, Jen Alger in the 200 meter individual medley (2:15.28), Laura Nuudi in the 100 fly (1:00.01), Beth Malinowski in the 500 meter freestyle (5:15.and Denise Telford in the 100 meter breastroke.

Both teams will head for Barbados for their annual swimming trip from Jan. 2-10 before returning to action on Jan. 13 2001 at Fairfield for a dual meet.
