Johnnies honored by the Big East
Forward Matt Groenwald was named the Big East co-Offensive Player of the Week while defender Steven Old was selected as the Big East’s Defensive Player of the Week.
Goalkeeper Jason Landers received Honor Roll recognition.
Groenwald scored twice to lead No. 10 St. John’s to a 2-1 victory over No. 14 Notre Dame Friday night at Belson Stadium.
The forward also led the Red Storm’s offensive effort in Sunday’s win over Marquette (1-0). Groenwald had five shots, three were on goal.
He leads the Red Storm in points this season with nine – four goals and one assist.
Old helped the St. John’s defense limit the nationally ranked Irish to just five shots, only two were on goal.
The defender also helped mute Marquette 1-0 limiting the Golden Eagles to just three shots.
No shots were on goal.
Landers recorded his third and fourth wins of the year, including the shutout against Marquette.
