Around the Big East

Men’s Soccer

This week, two players from Georgetown received conference honors. Ricky Schramm Jr. received the honor of Offensive Player of the Week. Schramm scored two goals in Georgetown’s overtime victory over Rutgers.

He also leads the the Big East with five goals and 10 points.

His teammate, Richard Frank, was named Rookie of the Week. Frank scored a goal in a 2-0 win against Villanova and assisted on the game-winning goal in a 3-2 overtime victory over Rutgers.

Dane Brenner of South Florida was named Goalkeeper of the Week, and Julius James of UConn was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Brenner posted two straight Big East shutouts against West Virginia and Pittsburgh and collected 11 saves over the weekend.

James’ defensive play contributed to two shutouts this week, one against St. John’s which resulted in a 0-0 double overtime tie, and one against Syracuse in a 1-0 victory.

Because of James’ stellar defense, UConn allowed only one shot on the goalie against the Red Storm, and just three shots were allowed on goal by Syracuse.


Women’s Soccer

Notre Dame’s Lauren Karas and Kerri Hanks were named Goalkeeper of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week, respectively.

Villanova’s Kayce Blandford was named Defensive Player of the Week, and UConn’s Elizabeth Eng was named Rookie of the Week.

Karas shutout Louisville and Cincinnati to improve her record to 11-0-0. Her seven saves against Louisville were a career high.

Hanks, who also earned this honor on the first week of the season, scored three goals and had two assists in victories against Louisville and Cincinnati.

Blandford was a staple to Villanova’s backline that contributed to shutouts against Seton Hall and Rutgers. She also scored on a free-kick to secure the victory against Rutgers.

Eng contributed to two victories over USF and Marquette, scoring two goals against Marquette.



Outside hitter Jessie Nevitt of Cincinnati was tabbed with Rookie of the Week honors for the second week, while Louisville’s Jennifer Hoffman, senior midblocker, received Player of the Week honors.

Nevitt set Cincinnati records for total blocks in a five-game match and overall blocks in a match.

In a 3-1 victory over Connecticut, she tallied 17 kills. Nevitt hit .304 this week with 35 kills, eight digs, and five service aces.

Her best hitting percentage was .391 against St. John’s.

Hoffman had sixteen kills in Louisville’s 3-0 win over UConn. She hit .304 with nine kills and eight blocks in a 3-1 victory over the Red Storm..
