Loughrin: offensive player of week

Women’s Soccer

Marquette took home the player of the week honors in three out of four categories this week, going 2-0 on the week and increasing their overall record to 9-1-1.

On offense, Alison Loughrin took the honor, scoring twice in Marquette’s 4-1 win over Notre Dame.

The defensive player of the week award went to Marquette’s Heather Goranson. Goranson, helping Marquette’s backliners to allow only one goal in two wins last week.

The Golden Eagles also had a goaltender take the award, with Laura Boyer allowing only a single goal in the two wins and earning her seventh shutout of the season.

The only non-Marquette player to take an award this week was freshman of the week Brittany Tegeler of Connecticut.

Tegeler had two goals and two assists in a pair of Huskies wins this week. On the season, she has a total of 10 points.


Men’s Soccer

The men’s soccer player of the week honors went to members of four different teams this week. Offensive player of the week honors this week went to Providence’s Eion Lynch. Lynch notched two goals, including the winner, as Providence defeated No. 25 Georgetown.

It was the second award of the season for Lynch.

In the goalkeepers category, player of the week went to Adam Schuerman of Connecticut.

The Huskies’ stopper had shutouts of 3-0 and 6-0 last week against Sacred Heart and Marquette, respectively. Schuerman now holds second place on UConn’s all time shut outs list.

Lastly, rookie of the week went to USF freshman Jordan Seabrook.

Seabrook, a striker, had two goals and an assist in a 4-2 win over Villanova.



Outside hitter Lena Ustymenko of Louisville and setter Nicole Taurence of Pitt took volleyball player of the week and rookie of the week respectively.

Ustymenko helped Louisville to defend its undefeated record against Tennessee, Villanova and Rutgers this week, recording 50 kills.

This was the second time in three weeks that she receieved the honor.

Taurence is the first setter this season to be named rookie of the week.

She had 92 assists and 14 digs in wins over USF and Georgetown.
