St. John’s wraps up fall season

Softball

Over the weekend, the St. John’s softball team completed its fall season by going 1-0-1 in its two games against Dowling and Fairfield.

In the first game against Fairfield, there was no offense at all produced, as both teams played to a scoreless tie.

It was a classic pitcher’s duel, as the Red Storm’s Jessica Foley allowed only three hits and struck out five.

For Fairfield, Tara Hansen kept the St. John’s offense quiet.

The second game was more eventful as the Red Storm’s sophomore ace pitcher Lisa Greer threw a brilliant 12-strikeout, one-hit, one-walk, complete-game shutout against Dowling for the 3-0 win.

St. John’s scored a run in each of the first two innings.

The Red Storm had a good day of softball overall combining for three stolen bases and 13 hits, while its pitchers had 12 strikeouts and allowed only four hits and four walks.

The Red Storm finish its fall season with a record of 4-1-1.

Women’s Tennis

St. John’s opened the fall season successfully with a 7-0 shutout over Queens College at the Courts at St. John’s on the Queens campus Sunday.

St. John’s stands at 1-0 and 0-0 in the Big East.

In doubles action, the Red Storm earned its first victory from Alison Adamski and Natalja Tumsevica as they topped Dominika Bajck and Karen Chang 8-4.

In singles play, Tumsevica led St. John’s in the No. 1 position and gained a 6-2, 6-2 win over Bajck.

The Red Storm returns to the courts Wednesday, Oct. 5 to host Massachusetts. Matches will start at 1 p.m.
