Cross country snares third

Senior Jasmine Barreto strided her way to a third-place finish at the St. John’s Fall Festival and led the Red Storm to a third place team finish Saturday at the Oakdale Campus on Long Island.

Barreto clocked in at 24:49.92 in the 6K race. Sophomore Jodey Johnson clocked in at 25:13.93 to capture sixth place while junior Kristen Levy and freshman Rakibat Abiola crossed the line in 15th and 16th place in 27:24.65 and 27:51.64, respectively. Senior Thamara Cherisme finished out the scoring for St. John’s coming in 18th place at 28:43.67.

Other Red Storm finishers included sophomore Tara Normandin (19th-28:54.13), seniors Kaydian Reid (25th-31:44.75), Tarashon Broomes (28th-32:09.26) and Dominique Ficalora (29th-32:27.50) as well as freshman Maggie Snyder (30th-33:03.08).

St. John’s finished behind Fordham, who scored 25 points and C.W. Post who posted 50.

The Red Storm finished with 58 points.

“I’m glad we could host this meet today,” St. John’s coach Jim Hurt said. “Jasmine ran an exceptional race and we’ve closed the gap between our team and other schools like Fordham and C.W. Post. So, I’m very happy about that.”
