BLESSING FOR STJ

The St. John’s track and field team finished six events in first place, but finished in second place overall behind host Akron over the weekend.

Blessing Egwu finished first in the 20-pound weight throw for the sixth consecutive time.

She also finished in third for the shot put event.

Kellie Brown measured 5.67m in the long jump and 11.34m in the triple jump that placed her first in both events.

Alecia Sewell won the 60m dash and Kaydian Reid was successful in the 200m, clocking in a time of 24.56 seconds.

 

MEN’S TENNIS

Louis Desmarteaux won the Columbia Classic this past weekend.

In this three day event, he defeated Paul Ratchford of Columbia (6-2, 6-0) in the finals. Desmarteaux also captured the sportsmanship award for the event.

He reached the finals by beating Diego Alvarado of Manhattan, Bogdan Borta and Mark Clemente, respectively.

In doubles, Aliasandr Svetlakov and Desmarteaux reached the semifinals before being eliminated.
