Desmarteaux’s Day

After earning a first round bye, seventh-seeded Louis Desmarteaux wasted little time in disposing of his second round opponent as he advanced on to the third round of the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships in Philadelphia, PA.

The Johnnies senior defeated Adam Schwartz of the University of Pennsylvania (4-6, 6-4, 6-1) on Saturday afternoon at Levy Pavilion to advance.

Desmarteaux will next square off against Princeton University’s Alex Vuckovic on Sunday, Oct. 22.

The day before Desmarteaux teamed up with sophomore Alex Svetlakov in doubles action against Jonathan Wong and Mark Clemente of Columbia University but lost a hard fought match 9-8.

In his own singles action in the first round, Svetlakov fell to Cornell’s Nick Brunner (6-3, 6-1).

The Wilson/ITA Regional singles finalist and doubles champions will have spots in the November ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, which are hosted by Ohio State University at the Raquet Club of Columbus. The ITA Indoor Championship is the nation’s premier collegiate indoor tennis tournament.
