Pack of Pop: An Entertainment Blog

What in the world is going on right now? Is it divorce time in the entertainment world’s biological clock? Or is it a mid-life crisis or something? People are breaking up and coming out like there is no tomorrow. Every week there is something new; something that just makes you want to continue to feed into the endless hole of celebrity news you know you shouldn’t read in the first place.

Now, I don’t think there is any person out there who isn’t glad Britney Spears finally kicked K-Fed to the curb. Talk about the worst rebound ever! I mean, she lost Justin Timberlake and then she goes to this wannabe backup dancer and the rest is history. He just brought her down and it seems to me that she just didn’t have the strength to kick him to the curb. Who wants to be alone especially when there are kids involved? And kudos to Britney for requesting custody without assistance.

When I read about Ryan Phillipe and Reese Witherspoon filing for divorce my heart suck, I mean they are the quintessential Hollywood success story for marriage and now seven years and two kids later they are parting ways. How can there be hope for us, normal people if those two can’t keep it together? A little part of me died inside when I read this. Happy couples supposedly don’t sell, but these two made it a point to be the successful Hollywood couple and now; it’s no more.

Divorce isn’t the only thing going around these days either. In the past few months three male celebrities have come out of the closet. THREE! PEOPLE magazine seems to have some control over people because all three came out exclusively to PEOPLE magazine.

Lance Bass of ‘NSYNC was the first to come out to people magazine and tell his story. My heart broke a little when I read the article because I always had a crush on that man, but the more power to him. He told PEOPLE in July that “I’m more liberated and happy than I’ve been my whole life. I’m just happy.” At least he is happy with his life; how many of us can say that? He even has a cute boyfriend, model-actor-Amazing Race winner Reichen Lehmkuhl.

More recently however, T.R. Knight, of Grey’s Anatomy came out of the closet in midst of an uproar of set battles between Patrick Dempsey and Isaiah Washington. Some say he was pushed out of the closet by all the rumors and spectulation that was going on, but either way he took himself off the market. Knight told PEOPLE magazine, While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I’m gay isn’t the most interesting part of me.” Be assured, it’s not.

Even more recent, my favorite teenage doctor, Doogie Howser, aka Neil Patrick Harris came out of the closet. Am I shocked? I’m not sure, all I know is I had huge crush on him when I was around the age of 5. I remember watching that show religiously. Harris seems perfectly happy with his life and just wishes to stay out of the media. He told PEOPLE magazine, “I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love.” Kudos to you, Harris!

All these people, whether divorcing or coming out seem to be making moves that are making their lives happier and maybe that’s the key and maybe that’s advice we should take. Be happy with who you are right now and don’t hide behind something you’re not. If we can do this, maybe we’ll all be as happy and as strong as these celebrities.
