St. Vincent’s staircase, which has been under construction since May, should be completed by September 21, according to Fidelis Oziegbe, a University project director in charge of the staircase project.

Brooklyn-based Schazi Construction earned the bid to work on the staircase, which is located directly across from Montgoris Dining Hall.

“The construction company tried their best to get the materials here as quickly as possible so that the construction would not have disrupted classes,” said Oziegbe.

“But in the end it was impossible.”

The amount of money spent on the staircase remains undisclosed since the budget is not complete.

According to Oziegbe, the new materials being used, such as granite block, are expensive, which is one of the main causes of the delay in completion.

The old staircase, which was built two years ago, took six weeks to remove.

Many students are frustrated with this construction project, which has caused them to take detours around campus.

“The University should have looked into a reliable construction company in the first place that would have done a good job,” said student Andrew Concannon.
“That would have given us residents a faster route to class.”
