St. John’s sports weekly report
St. John’s athletics received a number of awards this past week, including some firsts for a couple of athletes.
Sophomore Michael Luk, who plays midfield for the men’s soccer team, received his first collegiate award.
Luk was named to the Big East weekly honor roll. Luk totaled 1 goal and 2 assists for the week. Men’s soccer is currently riding a six game unbeaten streak.
For the first time this season Hui Ping Huang was named the Big East Volleyball player of the week. The senior has now received the award in three consecutive seasons.
Her .420 hitting percentage is the highest among all Big East players.
Huang has led the women’s volleyball team to eight straight weeks of being ranked in the CSTV/AVCA Division I Coaches top 25 poll.
The ladies volleyball team is currently ranked No. 23.
Its solid Big East play has the team currently sitting at 7-1 in the Big East as it ranks it No. 2 in the conference.
Overall the volleyball team is sitting on a solid 22-3 record.
The team will try to keep things rolling this week as it hosts the DePaul Blue Demons Friday and visits Notre Dame on Sunday.
