The St. John’s softball team (1-1) split a series over the weekend at Red Storm Field as they defeated Sacred Heart 6-3 in the first game and then fell to Rider 4-2 in the second.
In the Sacred Heart (0-1) game, the Red Storm was led by sophomore hurler Lisa Geer as she threw a complete game. She scattered eight hits over seven innings while striking out eight while allowing just two earned runs.
Lauren Anguiano had a big day at the plate as well. In the third inning, she launched a shot over the left-field wall to complete a 3-for-5 day with five RBIs and two runs scored. She provided offense but also threw out a runner attempting to steal on defense.
The second game against Rider (2-0) was a letdown on the offensive part as the Broncs’ Lauren Brunner held the Red Storm to just four hits. She pitched a masterful six innings while allowing just the four hits and zero earned runs with three strikeouts.
Again, Lauren Anguiano went 1-for-3 with her team leading sixth RBI and top producer from last year Jo Sherlock also knocked in a run.
The Red Storm will face Dowling and Fairfield in a three-game round-robin at Red Storm Field on Oct. 1 at 11 a.m.
