TENNIS IS 2-0

St. John’s looked sharp in action this weekend, improving its record to 5-6 overall and 3-2 in the Big East, while defeating conference rivals Seton Hall and Georgetown.

On Sunday, the St. John’s women’s tennis team was in action, grabbing its third straight conference victor by shutting out Georgetown in a 7-0 win in Washington, D.C.

The Red Storm women picked up straight set single wins by Nataly Tumsevica, Barbora Blahutiakova, Lauren Lorenzetti, and Alison Adamski.

Adamski and Tumsevica defeated Georgetown’s Stephanie Cohen and Natalie Newman, 9-7, while Blahutiakova and Mariana Chachua breezed past Liz Winokur and Eileen Boyle, 8-2.

At No. 3 doubles, Lorenzetti and Gasiunaite were victorious over Adriann Gin and Courtney Olsen 8-5.

On Friday, St. John’s defeated Seton Hall in the Red Storm’s home opener, 5-2, winning two of the three doubles matches.

Blahutiakova and Chachua defeated Iva Gyurgina and Danielle Viola, 8-1, while Lorenzetti and Gasiunaite won their match against Ebru Burduroglu and Sylvia Jaros, 8-5.

Chachua then earned a win in singles action, defeating Jaros in straight sets.

Blahutiakova was also victorious in singles action against Nadja Stein in three sets.

Adamski, a junior, earned the Red Storm its final match point defeating Danielle Viola in straight sets.

The team next plays at Stony Brook on March 30.

Men’s Golf

Keegan Bradley led the men’s golf team Monday at the George Washington Invitational in Bethany Beach, Del.

Bradley finished in a tie for fourth place overall, while the team finished in 17th place.

Bradley was the low scorer for the St John’s team for the second straight tournament, this week having to scramble in a comeback.

Bradley shot a first-round 75, and fought hard on the second day, posting an impressive two-under-par for the round.

His final combined score was a one-over-par, giving him his second top-ten finish in four spring tournaments.

Bradley and the St. John’s men’s golf team will look to continue their impressive play next at the Bradford Creek Classic, March 31 to April 1, in Greenville, N.C.
