New St. John’s lacrosse coach Jason Miller has not been with the team very long. Replacing former coach Rick Sowell earlier this year, Miller probably hasn’t had very much time to get to know everyone yet.

So it was a good idea to let the team vote for its own captains. For the 2007 campaign, they will be junior Mike Luyster and seniors T.J. O’Shea and Anthony Bozymowski.

“I am very pleased with the selection of Mike, T.J., and ‘Boz’ as captains,” Miller told RedStormSports.com. “This is something the team voted for, and these three guys earned the most votes by a significant margin.”

Luyster was named most valuable player of last year’s team. The defenseman started in 12 of 13 games and tied for second in groundballs with 33. O’Shea played in three matches and picked up two groundballs while Bozymowski started all 13 games and collected 26 groundballs.

Miller is most pleased that the team selected players that will bring the right attitude and be able to lead by example.
“They are hard workers day in and day out, and I am pleased that the team recognizes work ethic as a key ingredient to being a leader,” he said.

“I have the utmost confidence that these guys will set the right tone for our 2007 season.”
