Lamar Odom is back on the radar

Overshadowing most stories this week has been the shocking news of Lamar Odom. If you have been living under a rock, or just try to ignore anything involving the Kardashians, Khloé’s estranged husband, Lamar Odom, was found unconscious on Tuesday, Oct. 13, inside of the Love Ranch brothel in Crystal, Nev. Establishment employees came across the 35-year-old’s body and alerted authorities of his condition. Odom was then taken immediately to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas and put on life support after an apparent drug overdose. It has been reported that the former-NBA player had been using cocaine and herbal Viagra while at Love Ranch. When asked to comment on Odom’s drug use, brothel owner Dennis Hof stated, “I’m going to protect my business, and I’m not going to let the world say that Lamar was doing a lot of drugs in my place.” However, a source from the hospital claims, “Virtually every drug imaginable was found in his system.” Prior to entering Love Ranch, Odom had also been on a three-day stint of non-stop partying that led up to this drastic turn of events.

Due to the high number of substances in his body, Odom suffered a stroke and was in a coma for approximately four days. During this time, Khloé has been making medical decisions on his behalf, due to the fact that they are still legally married. The two broadcasted their extravagant ceremony on none other than E! in 2009. But, in 2013, Khloé filed for a divorce, although it has never been finalized. It is speculated that their “irreconcilable differences” may have been due to Odom’s constant abuse of drugs and failure to change after multiple trips to rehab. However, this incident has worked as a wake-up call for Kourtney Kardashian’s ex-boyfriend/baby-daddy, Scott Disick, who has just recently checked into rehab for his ongoing addiction to alcohol and partying. Both the Kardashian and Odom families have been banding together to support Odom as he continues to fight for his life.

It has also been said that when entering Love Ranch, Odom was allegedly in a depressed state of mind and thought of himself as “a broken man.” A few months prior to his hospitalization, Odom had suffered the loss of two close friends in the course of six days and was feeling extremely lonely due to his separation with Khloé.  According to one of the prostitutes at the brothel, “He thought his life was a mess and he had no direction.” Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that, since this tragic accident, Odom and Khloé have called off their divorce and Odom will continue to heal both mentally and physically.

Amongst much of the bad press, Odom’s condition had taken a turn for the better on Friday afternoon when it was reported that he had awaken from his coma, but not before quickly going back to sleep. His condition is steadily improving and he is continuing to breathe on his own, but is still hospital-ridden until further notice.  His family and friends continue to stay by his side in this difficult time as they watch his health steadily improve.

There should be no surprise here that this off-the-wall saga of an NBA All-Star has ties to the Kardashian family, but it can be very easy to cast them off as simply reality television stars.

Circumstances such as Odom’s definitely bring out the human side of these individuals. Nonetheless, this is not to say that we cannot expect a spin-off show from this near death experience.
