Four Red Storm Athletes Named to President’s Society

Four University athletes were chosen to be a part of the 2012-13 President’s Society announced March 30 by the University Athletics site.

Men’s basketball player God’sgift Achiuwa, women’s golfer Mariana Barrios, volleyball player Gabriela Petkova and men’s soccer player Alex Naples will all be a part of the prestigious society.

The President’s Society was founded in 1968 and is the highest honor society that the University has. Members will be considered a part of Donald J. Harrington C.M., President of the University’s official staff and take part in various University events.

“The President’s Society offers our finest students the opportunity to tell and retell the St. John’s story in their own words to a variety of important audiences,” Dr. Pamela Shea-Byrnes, Vice President for University Events and coordinator of the President’s Society, said in a statement issued on redstormsports.com.

Those chosen to be a part of the society are considered to be those in the University who show excellence in scholarship, integrity, and maturity, according to the statement.

The athletes and others chosen to be a part of the society will be inducted April 26.
